VaxiCode is the official application from the government of Québec to allow citizens to securely record their proof of vaccination containing a QR code. It allows citizens to register multiple proofs of vaccination containing a QR code, as well as verify the contents of each of the QR codes. With VaxiCode, users can also know their protection status from COVID-19, through an interpretation of their proof of vaccination.
September 10, 2021: Updates
- VaxiCode now recognizes QR codes containing an exemption to vaccination.
- The import of existing QR codes has been improved, and in case of an error, a clear message is presented.
- Manual updates of the vaccination protection rules can now be triggered from the Settings menu.
August 30, 2021: Quebec COVID-19 vaccine passport
Starting Sept. 1, Quebec residents will need to show proof of vaccination to visit businesses the provincial government deems non-essential, such as bars, clubs, and restaurants. That proof is in the form of a quick response code — or QR code — distributed to vaccinated residents by the Health Department.
Steven Lachance, a Montreal-based digital security analyst, and entrepreneur said Quebec’s system should be the model for other provinces. Lachance and another tech expert interviewed by The Canadian Press say the applications do what they claim to do and are not capable of secretly gathering user data.

Difference between proof of vaccination and the vaccination passport
Electronic proof of vaccination is a PDF document you can download from a computer or mobile device. It contains your personal information, the name of the vaccine you received or your contraindication, the result of your first positive COVID-19 screening test, and a QR code containing this information.
The vaccination passport is a tool that interprets the information in the QR code for your proof of vaccination to determine your level of protection against COVID-19. It will not show your personal information other than your name, nor information about your medical, vaccination, or exemption history.
